High-quality chronological
information is essential to productive archaeological research. Desert
Archaeology's specialists have made significant refinements to both the
Tucson Basin Red-on-brown and the Phoenix Basin Red-on-buff ceramic
typologies. The result is much finer chronological resolution and major
new insights into change in the past.
Ceramicist
James M. Heidke has developed a new approach for assessing how
prehistoric pottery was used. This technique can highlight differences
among contemporaneous settlements and has been used to identify the
areas within a community where founding populations first settled.
Our ceramic
specialists are available to participate in cooperative research
projects, or to conduct analyses for specific projects.
